As the recession tightens its grip, more and more people are are doing whatever they can in order to save money, and as a result, solar power homes are becoming increasingly popular.
With gas and oil prices going up, solar power is the way that many people are using to help them get the electricity that they need. If you are thinking about converting your home into one that uses solar energy, then you need to know the advantages and disadvantages.
Advantages:
One: When you use solar power, you are helping the earth because you are using a natural resource to get the energy that you need. You will no longer be causing air pollution to get your electricity.
This is a big advantage to a lot of people because everyone needs to do their part to help save the earth and this is a big way to do that.
Two: Solar energy coming from the sun is essentially an endless supply, so unlike with oil and gas, you’ll no longer need to be concerned with regards to it running out.
Three: Unlike grid supplied power, energy from the sun is free and as such, those who live in solar power homes will never be limited with regards to consumption. In other words, the days of high electricity bills will be a thing of the past when you convert to solar power.
Four: With a solar power home, there will be little maintenance to use a solar power system. With solar energy, there are no parts that move and the solar cells will last for your lifetime, so there is hardly any maintenance required.
Essentially, because there generally won’t be any maintenance requirements, there’s no need for owners of solar power homes to budget for them.
Now that you know the advantages, you need to know the disadvantages of a solar power home.
Disadvantages:
One: Without a doubt, the biggest disadvantage of all is the cost of the initial installation, simply because it can cost a significant amount of money and as such, you will need to do plenty of research in order to determine the cost before you start converting your home.
While there are literally hundreds of companies and individuals doing their best to make solar power systems more affordable for the average person, such systems are still beyond many people’s budget. However, one can now obtain a manual that can teach you how to build your own solar power system, and of course this does reduce the overall cost dramatically.
Two: Another disadvantage of a solar power home is that you’re at the mercy of the weather to a great extent, in that you’ll be unable to produce much solar energy on days when there’s excessive cloud cover. The same applies at night and even sometimes during the winter months.
These are not all of the advantages and disadvantages that you need to know, but they are the most important ones. You need to take time to research to decide for yourself if you want a solar power home. Solar power has its benefits, but also its drawbacks, so make your decision carefully.
